Deus EX - Project HDTP still coming!

By: HoriZon

I have been waiting for this for ages as I want to play the game again but want it to look the business! It may not be of todays graphics standard but this is an awesome game! Seems they are aiming for a 2007 finish after 4 years it will finally be done and we can play it looking a little better on todays PC's/Macs!

About:
Project HDTP is a High Definition Texture Package for the original Deus Ex game. The original in-game textures were of a very low resolution, some textures even being as low as 32x32. However, it was discovered that it is possible to increase the resolution of those textures to a maximum of 256. This has been tested in-game and we have witnessed the start of a massive graphical overhaul.

Features:

  • All new remodelled and retextured Objects.
  • Objects will sport a high resolution of 256.
  • Brand new character models and matching high resolution skins.
  • Character models are more individual. (a guard/trooper type will now have its own model instead of using a generic one.)
  • Character models now have their own fingers (removing the 'mittens' effect.)
  • Models that require animation will be full animated from scratch to compliment the higher quality feel.
  • Characters look darker and more moody to enhance the game play experience.
  • Vehicle models and weapons will be remodelled, skinned and reanimated.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl now on Steam

One of the best FPS this year, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is now available on Steam for $29.95 (that's £15.00-ish.) Offering a unique combination of First-Person Shooter and Survival-Horror action, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl gives gamers unprecedented freedom to explore the devastated exclusion zone that surrounds the Chernobyl power plant following a second apocalyptic explosion.

It is now 2012 - man has ventured further and further into the heart of the Zone driven by reports of strange 'artifacts' imbued with anomalous energy. Mercenaries and bounty hunters compete to recover these artifacts, which command extortionate prices on the black market. Others seek to find the truth behind the Zone, while some merely revel in the desolate lawlessness of the place. Whatever their motivation, over time these individuals - Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killer, Explorers and Robbers - have become known as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s.

Its looking like Steam is the way to go nowadays as more and more games are appearing on it! (I haven't got it installed atm.)

A few more games for you to play for free, as Ubisoft have released full versions of four of their games. These are ad-supported though, so hopefully you don't mind seeing a few McDonald's ads. FileShack has them all to download:

Unfortunately at this time its for US people only! But its good to see these FREE games coming! In the UK? you have to lie and say you're American to get the download. That's quite a price though.

id Software take note!

That game that kicked off the series is now available free from EA!

They're offering it as a part of the anniversary of Command & Conquer, which is 12 years old this year. An odd time to celebrate imo, but meh, it's free!

Halo 3 Gone Gold!

A privileged few have been seen playing a full version of Halo 3 online, suggesting the game's complete status, but Microsoft today officially announced that Bungie's Xbox 360 sci-fi shooter sequel has gone gold and is on track for its Sept 25 worldwide release.

"This is a huge milestone for us and a big cause for celebration at Bungie and Microsoft Game Studios," said studio head Harold Ryan. "This is the game we've always wanted to make and certainly the best game our studio has developed. We can't wait for gamers to get their hands on it on Sept. 25."

Microsoft, always bullish on Halo franchise sales projections, expects the game to "shatter day-one entertainment sales records," as the game has already achieved one million retail preorders in North America. The release of Halo 2 for Xbox saw first-day sales that eclipsed both film and game industry records.

New website v6.0 goes Live!

What was due for the end of June to celebrate our 9th Birthday missed the deadline unfortunately.

But here it is almost complete only a few small things to do! (nav menu new look and top right logo! been the most obvious!)

Its on a CMS (Content Management System) called e107 which has had this custom theme made and just about every default graphic has been changed to our own style, these were a few hundred icons to very large things like the banners you can see.

Features that the site include for site members and to some extent the public/guests are.

Site Members:

  • Use the comment system.
  • Use the public forum!
  • Download all files! (but not clan member only files!)
  • Have an inbox/outbox on the site for sending and receiving messages! (10meg limit each!)
  • Read exclusive articles/interviews.
  • Use the sites rating system.
  • View other site member profiles.
  • Search the whole site.

Guests:

  • View the site but can't do any of the above!
  • Read the public comments.
  • Limited search options.
  • Limited downloading!
  • Vote in public Polls.

Their is a lot more the site offers and even a lot more for site members but for that you will have to register for an account.

Which brings me to my last few points, the site works best in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox 2 it will work in other browsers like Opera (PC & Wii) and to a lesser extent IE6 but the latter is very buggy and is not recommend plus no one should be on that browser in this day and age!! (I may get around to fixing it) The site is also best viewed in a resolution of 1280 and above as well.

Also note there may be a few bugs to iron out over time we will fix these, please report any you find here.

All the old accounts are unfortunately gone as this system is new so you will have to re-sign up for an account as they have not been transferred. So don't delay register today!!

Thanks go to ROB and silentbob for all their help.
